It’s Been Two Years

On June 26 of this year I celebrated 2 full wonderful and quite a sporadic journey, of being 100% natural! I absolutely love it. I look back at my pics and I realize how far I have come. I can’t express how happy I am to have made it to two years. Trial and error, research and just wanting to really embrace my God given glory, has brought me this far.

Quick hair stats:

  • 4a/4b hair type, though my hair does what it feels like and curls and coils up when it chooses.
  • seemingly jet black hair color
  • now after 2 hair cuts since I’ve been natural, hair length is shoulder length
  • Very thick hair
  • texture: cottony in some areas, wiry in others, smooth in others (I have combo hair)

Things that I’ve learned over the 2 years:

  • Patience is key in dealing with natural hair
  • Finding what works for your hair is very essential to it’s health
  • Not everything that fits OR works for Jane will fit  or work for you!
  • Deep conditioning is a MUST!!
  • Protective Styling is very important if you plan on retaining any form of length
  • TID (tie your hair down at night)
  • It’s very easy to become a product junkie-especially when you read people’s rave review!! LOL
  • Trimming is good for revitalizing the hair, but don’t go overboard
  • Eat healthy it helps, drink water it helps! Exercise also
  • Document your journey, more often you’ll not see progress until you take a look back at where you were a month ago in pics
  • Have fun, change your hairstyle up, be bold, don’t be afraid
  • The journey is always about learning! Hang tight

not much of a comment but a quick story

hey i have had my natural hair for 5years and i never had the encouragement that is seen here

my style was seen to be childish and old fashioned.

the most i could do with it was twists, and when it grew cork screw.

im going to relax it now, i have had enough pressure, to grow up and for my hair to help me look grown up.

im 25 and ppl always tell me i look 15ish.

There are many styles you could rock natural that can have you look grown up. But if you must (*tear*) then make sure you remain healthy. But just know, natural hair is still fabulous. Don’t let others make a choice for you.
