I really like using Crisco on my natural hair, from time to time. I've read that it is a good hair product to use. However, why do u not agree with this? I read your statement: “If you can fry chicken in it or if it requires heat to melt, don’t use it on your hair.”

True…your acceptance of your own hair is portrayed to others, and they can tell, and thus it's easier for them to realize they like it too. I so strongly believe, we first need to break the cycle of hating our hair, before we can truly expect others to want to do the same.

Great article. I really love the statement she makes about letting go of European standards of neatness and about natural hair in corporate America. Our obsession with constantly trying to “tame” our hair results in so much over manipulation. I actually get more compliments on my hair when it is a wild and crazy afro then when I define my curls with products for my wash n go styles. Most of these compliments come from my co workers and people from other races.

I think that when we embrace our hair and educate every one else about it, society as a whole becomes more accepting of it as well.
