We use them, we love them. In fact time and time again we search high and low to find them..the rights one that suit our needs best. But how do we protect them?
Tools..being brushes, combs, clips etc. are key to our hair care regimens. Yes while others make stick strictly to their hands and fingers, truth be told, there are some of us out there, like myself who must use a wide tooth comb on wash days to help me detangle (after finger detangling).
So what is tool etiquette? This is the law by which you keep your tools clean. What good is clean hair if the brush and combs your use to comb and style your hair is dirty?? Defeats the purpose huh? This is no hidden secret, but keeping the brushes and combs clean, helps reduce dirt build up on the scalp. Think about it. If your comb is dirty, and you use it to comb your hair..then the flakes are falling off unto to scalp, causing additional build up. Also, when you really think about it. It’s gross to have clean hair, then dare put a dirty brush/comb to it just to make the hair dirty once more.
A quick and easy way to solve this problem:
Basin of hot water
Dr. Bronner’s soap (or any other mild liquid detergent)
Dettol (about a cap full this helps for rinsing, will be a sanitizer).
All you need to do is combine the hot water and mild liquid soap together in the basin, place the brushes, combs into the basin to soak for about 20 mins. **Prior to soaking PLEASE do comb out any excess hair, build up etc from the brushes and combs**
After it was soaked in the hot soapy water, rinse in a basin of cold water with a cap full of Dettol. Do a final rinse by running them under the sink. Let dry on a spread towel.
There you have it, clean, sanitized tools. Remember ladies and gents, it’s really important to use clean tools. Because this cuts back on build-up and of-course germs and fungus etc.
Stay Blessed and Afroniquely You!!
