fly natural ChiselleCouture

Name : Chisellecouture / Cali B

How long have you been natural? I’ve been natural for 11 months.

How did your natural journey begin? I transitioned for 18 months.

How was the experience from then to your journey now? I thought that when i did my Big Chop, the “journey” would end. Its like i’m getting reacquainted with an old friend. Im still learning alot of new information pertaining to the proper care needed for my hair.

What tips do you have for newly naturals? Computers are my bestfriend, you’re reading this interview right now, so im guessing you’re familiar with it too! Do your research, its so much information floating around the net. Seriously, when i was deep into my transition i had a “DUH Moment” when i finally decided to google natural hair. Patience is also key, your hair isn’t going to grow back overnight.

What is your routine? I don’t have a strict routine, i listen to my hair and give it what it needs. However i do shampoo and condition once every 2 weeks, im currently in a protective style challenge. Once i’m back to wash and go’s i’ll co wash every other day, and deep condition weekly.

What products do you use, or what would you recommend? I couldn’t live without Creme of Nature detangling and conditioning shampoo. V05 Moisture Milks conditioner is my fav for cowashing. Carol’s Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey is the truth, i use it on my twists, it gives an amazing shine! Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil is the best i ever had, check them out they’re really cool peeps.

What advice do you have for someone who asks “what should I do if I want my hair to grow long?” Pay attention to your ends, thats the oldest part of your hair, so be good to granny! Hair is constantly growing, so retention is the key to long hair. That requires trimming/dusting when needed, moisturizing and sealing, deep conditioning and low manipulation. Natural hair may appear to be rough and touch but we have the most fragile hair type. Avoid using direct heat, it dries out our hair and damages the curl pattern with prolonged usage.

Name the main things that have kept you through your natural journey and have kept your hair growing strong and long. Constant research, and along with that sticking to products that work best for my hair. I do try out new products every now and then, but i have my staples that i will forever remain faithful to!

Where can we find you? (fotki/blog/website): You can find me at: www.youtube.com/chisellecouture

What besides hair interests you? Well hair seems to be my main interest right now, im starting cosmetology school next month. I love to sew, im suddenly tempted to begin sewing some spring/summer threads. I have a huge fascination for anything vintage or vintage-inspired, its actually a dream of mine to open a vintage boutique. I dont know why, but i have a huge passion for health and fitness. I believe i was a personal trainer, in my past life. LOL

I hope this interview was beneficial to you. Be sure to check out many more like it on the site. And email me if you have suggestions of features and topics you’d like to see  on the blog!
